Week 6 PBHOT62 - Welcome Nancy Churnin

The thing I love about picture books is that first moment I open a book and are drawn into a new world. The first time I read Nancy's debut THE WILLIAM HOY STORY, I knew I was reading something special. I'm thrilled to have Nancy on the blog today. Take it away Nancy!

Today, my favorite place to read is a comfy chair that my parents gave me. It doesn't match anything in my house, but it conjures a memory of a comfy chair in a room that our family called The Library because my dad had built bookshelves from floor to ceiling that were filled with books. There was one area for children's books, but I loved looking up from my reading to gaze around the room, considering what magic portal I would enter next. Dickinson, Browning and Tennyson perched on shelves over my head while I read, while across the room I could look forward to discovering Dickens, Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky. The Library may have been dismantled in my current spot in the space/time continuum, but when I sit in my comfy chair, I feel its warmth and promise.

Hello, I'm Rena! I'm a writer, poet and librarian.

I'm on the way...to somewhere (a book contract, a delicious taco, a room full of screaming kids? Life is never dull).

I post about the creative life (the good and the bad), books and life in between the cracks and crevices.
