PBHOT62 - Week 1 - Welcome Marcie Colleen!

I'm so excited to start the Summer Reading Challenge for Picture Book Writers featuring one of my favourite gals.  I met Marcie via 12x12 (a picture book writing challenge). We later became critique partners.  Her wit and funny bone shines through her work. I can't wait for Marcie's picture book Love, Triangle to hit the shelves this October. Here's Marcie and her favorite place to read.

My favorite place to read:

It depends on what I am reading. If reading for work, I love to sitting cross-legged on my couch with the windows open, letting in the fresh San Diego breeze. In fact, this is where I do most of my work, both reading and writing. But I also read for pleasure in bed at night. Although sometimes I only get a few pages in before drifting off.

My favorite place to read as a child:

As a child, I read everywhere! But in bed was my favorite. I attribute this, as well as my love and habit of reading, to my mother. She encouraged both my brother and I to read before turning out the light and had her own bedtime reading routine, as well. To this day, bedtime without story-time just seems odd to me.

Thank you Marcie.  What a gorgeous place to feel inspired. Love, Triangle will be up for grabs at the end of the challenge for those that stayed tuned to reading all summer long.  Next week we will joined by author, Josh Funk along with a new list of places to read. If you haven't signed-up do so now (click here to learn about the challenge/sign up).

Marcie Colleen has been a teacher, an actress, and a nanny, but now she spends her days writing children’s books. She is the author of the popular chapter book series, THE SUPER HAPPY PARTY BEARS, with Imprint/Macmillan. Her debut picture book, LOVE, TRIANGLE, illustrated by Bob Shea (Balzer + Bray/HarperCollin) hits bookshelves everyone on October 3, 2017. It is about best friends Circle and Square, and Triangle who comes between them. Other upcoming picture books include THE ADVENTURE OF THE PENGUINAUT (Scholastic, 2018) which will be illustrated by Emma Yarlett. Marcie is a frequent presenter at conferences for SCBWI. She lives in San Diego, California with her husband and their mischievous sock monkey. Visit her at thisismarciecolleen.com or on Twitter @MarcieColleen1.

When I was a child one of my favorite places to read was curled up on top of my dresser. I'd sit there with my legs pulled up and a book between my lap and nose. Fun Times!
Now, I generally prefer to read in bed, just like you, Marcie!

Wow. That's different! I feel like there is a story in there. I'm also a fan of reading in bed although I enjoyed whipping out my picture book at the coffee shop today (I can't believe I hadn't done that before!).
