Hello from rural Alberta!
I’m a future ready writer-librarian and communications specialist. I joined Woodhaven Middle School in 2016 as a library technician and writing expert. Prior to joining the library world I managed Tipple Park Museum and their local Farmers’ Market. Longing for a career, in which I could combine my education in communication and business management with my passion for writing and children’s literature and viola I made the jump to education (a natural fit for a curious soul!).
Making, growing and creating are the backbone to my work, whether I’m penning a technology grant, reading the hottest new picture book, or running a series of makerspace challenges. I believe we learn best, especially children, when we co-create together. As such, I run a weekly Write Club at Woodhaven Middle School and landed an ATLE (Alberta Technology Leaders in Education) grant to support a multimedia journalism pilot project. This project, launched in late May 2018, will see 10, grade eight students, under my lead, learn what is takes to become a 21st century journalist while raising the profile of their school internally and externally (check back for progress!). If you can’t tell, I’m super excited about this project.
I’m an active member of SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators), the Writers’ Guild of Alberta (served on their board and youth committee) and the Alberta Association of Library Technicians. I’ve had the honour of serving as a literary awards juror. I can be found on Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
Thank you for stopping by. I’m available for presentations, residencies and workshops. Please see my Workshop page for further information. Of course, feel free to connect with me online or shoot me an email.
